Eocene to middle Miocene contourite deposits in Cyprus: A record of Indian Gateway evolution

چکیده

Bottom current deposits (contourites) form in association with modern-day or ancient oceanic gateways. A paucity of examples the record and lack consensus on diagnostic criteria for differentiating them from other deepwater limit our understanding how they may past global circulation, tectonic events gateway evolution. This work describes an exceptional example Eocene to middle Miocene deep-marine located both onshore offshore environments around island Cyprus. Multidisciplinary approaches were used discriminate contourite facies associations, propose a sedimentary model, interpret relations regional tectonics evolution nearby Indian Gateway. Contourite appear late intervals interstratified pelagic/hemipelagic sediments, turbidites mass-transport (MTDs). These developed along slope basin upper plate active margin, evolving wide formed during period quiescent into series shallowing-upward, segmented sub-basins affected by compressional stress. The present study proposes model which two depositional systems developed: first (dominated finer-grained contourites), then latest Oligocene coarser-grained contourites). Paleoecology of Early to Middle Miocene Deposits (Guri Member) and Sedimentary Environment, SE Zagros Zone, Roydar, Iran

This research focusses on the facies distribution, paleoenvironment and paleoecology of the foraminifera of the Guri Member in the northern Bandar Abbas Hinterland located in the Roydar area of southern Iran. The Guri Member is 570 meters thick and composed of limestone, argillaceous limestone and marl. The distribution of the foraminifera in the study area indicates the existence of three bioz...

Middle Eocene primate tarsals from China: implications for haplorhine evolution.

We describe tarsal remains of primates recovered from the Middle Eocene (approximately 45 mya) Shanghuang fissures in southern Jiangsu Province, China. These tarsals document the existence of four higher-level taxa of haplorhine primates and at least two adapid species. The meager and poorly preserved adapid material exhibits some similarities to European adapines like Adapis. The haplorhine pr...
